“This print depicts a group of art students sketching from a nude model at the Whitney Studio Club on West Fourth Street in Manhattan. The club was established in 1918 by Gertrude and Harry Payne Whitney, who later founded the Whitney Museum of American Art. The scene features witty, caricature-like portraits and whimsical details. For instance, a spider—a signature motif in Bacon’s work—hangs above a woman’s head at top center.“ (read more)
